Mike & Molly is a sitcom which premiered in September 2010. The show revolves around the lives of Mike Biggs, a police officer, and Molly Flynn, a schoolteacher, who meet and fall in love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. Officer Michael "Mike" Biggs (Billy Gardell), is the leading male protagonist of the series. He is introduced in the first episode as a Chicago police officer with weight issues who attends a meeting of Overeaters Anonymous (the equivalent of Weightwatchers). It is here that he meets Molly Flynn. After Molly asks Mike to come and speak to her class at the school where she works, they begin dating in the second episode. Mike is regularly accompanied by his best friend, Carl McMillan, a fellow police officer, and Samuel, a waiter at the cafe which Mike and Carl frequent.

Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy) is the leading female protagonist of the series. She is a fourth grade school teacher who attends the same Overeaters Anonymous class as Mike. She lives with her mother Joyce and her sister Victoria, while her mother's partner Vince Moranto is often seen at the house.
Melissa McCarthy won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 for her portrayal of Molly Flynn.
Officer Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson) is Mike Biggs' best friend and fellow officer in the police force. He lives with his grandma as he has not been able to find his own place or a girlfriend. He has a dry sense of humour and offers droll remarks on various situations.
